Vitacress Herbs sponsors Chichester Be the Change 2019
Supporting the local community is important for Vitacress, and never more so than when young people are involved. That is why we are delighted to be supporting Chichester’s Be the Change and Love Local Jobs’ national mentoring scheme to help Year 9’s (age 14) from various schools in the local Chichester area.
Be the Change is a ground breaking, inspirational programme aimed at students who, for one reason or another, may have become disengaged with school or lack confidence in their own abilities; who may struggle academically, but have real potential once engaged in an activity that captures their imagination.
Over the coming weeks, Vitacress employees Laura Marner and Emma Hunt will be volunteering as business mentors for the initiative, helping a selection of young people and engaging with them to help them develop skills they can use when they leave full time education.
The students have been handpicked because they are facing life challenges such as bereavement, bullying, negative attitudes, gender change and disruptive home lives.
The programme is designed to help Year 9 become more confident and to be happy within themselves. It is also about getting a connection to life within the work place and opens their eyes to opportunities beyond school. The schools they will visit include Chichester High School, Chichester Free School, Selsey Academy, Bourne Community College and Midhurst Rother College.
The programme will run over six sessions, and will include a visit to Vitacress, offering pupils a brilliant opportunity to get engaged with horticulture from an early age.
As well as the Be the Change initiative, Vitacress Herbs are supporting a number of charities this year with fundraising, donations and volunteering including UKHarvest and the Trussell Trust Foodbank.
