COOLING, WASHING & PACKING TECHNOLOGY

Once our crops are harvested in the field we aim to pass on the maximum freshness to our customers, through the simple philosophy of “keep it cold – move it fast”.

The most important factor in maintaining freshness is rapid cooling after harvest and then maintaining the cool chain throughout the supply chain. Vitacress employs vacuum coolers on all its farms, aiming to cool its crops to below 5º C within 60 minutes of harvest.

Another key area in maintaining freshness is in the processing and packing of the products. The delicate nature of baby leaves requires the optimisation of the balance between sufficient washing to clean the leaves and gentle handling to minimise bruising and damage to the leaves. This balance also has to be maintained in the drying process after washing.
