AGRONOMY- the science of growing
Vitacress run a dynamic agronomy department
responsible for a wide range of specialist activities, developing
the blueprints to which all our crops around the world are grown.
These activities range from working with seed breeders on the development
of new varieties, through to integrated pest management and product
traceability systems.
A key deliverable of the Agronomy team
has been to reduce the amount of pesticides used in the growing
of our crops, measured by the amount of residues found in a crop.
In 2003 95% of all our crops tested were residue free, 100% were
well within government safety limits. This compares to an average
of all fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers in the UK of 53% residue
free.
